Luang Namtha – Ban Thasae – Ban Jaleunsouk – Ban Phieng Ngam – Luang Namtha
We begin the rainforest trek by driving southward for half an hour to the starting point of the trek – Ban Chaleunsouk – an ecotourism village. Here you will meet with your village guide who used to be a hunter in the area. He will accompany you all the way on this trek. The trek is a moderate level but some parts can be muddy and slippery in the rainy season. The length of the hike would be around 5-6 hours hiking amongst the primary rainforest under big old trees shading us. Along the way, you may hear some animal sounds or even see a native animal. We will stop to have a jungle lunch, cooked by your local guide who will also share his knowledge of the rainforest plants and herbs, flora and fauna found in the National Protected Area. He will also answer any questions you have about the wildlife or the culture. After lunch, we will cross some streams and walk alongside the NamHa River before we climb a mountain, where you will have a phenomenal view at the top. Then we descend down to the village located on the riverbank where our car will be waiting to pick us up. If there is still time we will visit some more villages along the way. We will drive through the weaving textile village of Ban Phieng Ngam and finish our rainforest trek by returning to Luang Namtha around 4-5 PM.
